Brief history
Luang Pu Nenkham
His birthname is Wiraphon Sukphon. He was born on 18th September 1979 at Barn Sai Moon (Sai-Moon house) Phibunmangsahan Ubon Ratchathani. He is the 4th son of Mr.Rad&Mrs.Soodjai Sukphon. He has three elder brothers and one younger brother. When he became a monk he was named as Chattigo. “Pra Archarn Wiraphon Chattigo”
Since the age of six he has dedicated himself to ardently practise meditation. On every Buddhist Sabbath, he skipped his class, wore white costumes and carried long-handled umbrella in order to meditate in a temple from early morning until dawn the next day like other old people did. He consciously practised sitting meditation under the Bayan tree and also calmly practised a walking meditation all the time.
Sometimes he lay on the burial ground with no fear at all but calmness. This knowledge of any dedication to meditation indicates the result of the on-going- practising Parami (eventually perfect virtuous action) which immediately continues when a new life begins.
In primary school he attended classes with other children, but after lunch sat meditating under the trees during lunch time. And then after school he paid respect to the Buddha image and did walking meditation on the way home everyday. He was ordained to be a novice at the age of nine, twelve, and fifteen.
While he was studying in a secondary school, he often thought “When the mission on earth is fulfilled, I won’t come back again. I must be born many times (existences) and this present life (existence) is enough. Since they appeared to have been known and have been seen already, causing severe sadness. As a matter of fact, I’m continuing the development of my conscious and tolerant practice in order to be liberated.”
At thirteen, while practising meditation in a hut at the end of his parents’ field after school, he felt that his body was not on the floor but stayed up above it, and thereafter he changed to do the walking meditation on the rice field and learned that his feet were not touching the ground at all. Another time he had been sitting meditation for five hours until 02:00 a.m.; afterwards he went to take a bath in a pond but felt that his feet didn’t go into the water. This miraculous experience caused him to entirely devote himself working harder and harder and decide to be a novice again.
On 13th October 1994, he was ordained by Luang Pu Chot Aphako at Wat Phukaew Phibunmungsahan Ubon Ratchathani. Following this he went to stay during the rainy season at Wat Pa Dontad where his venerable Luang Pu Somboon Khantigo courteously taught him. Later on, he went on a pilgrimage (austere practices) along the Moon river until reaching the Khong river. He had a chance to pay his respects to Luang Pu Rian Woralapho at Wat Aranyabanpod. Afterwards, he went to stay at Wat Hin Mag Peng where Luang Pu Tase Taserangsi generously taught him about the supreme Dhamma- law of liberation ( the teaching of an enlightened person, the Lord Buddha). He learned about many wonderful experiences including the path afterlife. Then he began a long walk barefoot to Chiangmai, Nakorn Sawan, Uthai Thani, Suphan Buri, Lop Buri, Saraburi, coming back to Wat Pa Dontad for a while, and then moved to Kalasin.
It’s strange that everywhere he went on his pilgrimage (austere practices), nowadays there is a monastery wherever he placed his long-handled umbrella.
In 1999, he was ordained as a monk at Wat Pa Dontad. After being proposed, he decided to go to Srisaket as was asked to stay for the rest of his final life (his last existence; there is no more rebirth).
